“Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. was founded on November 12, 1922, at Butler University in Indianapolis, Indiana, by seven young educators known as the ‘Seven Pearls.’ As the only NPHC sorority founded at a predominantly white institution and the only one founded by educators rather than students, the organization remains dedicated to its motto, ‘Greater Service, Greater Progress.’ The sorority focuses on enhancing the quality of life for women and their families through community service, civil action, and social advocacy.”
